Last week, Ruben Amorim spoke out describing his team as “the worst Manchester United in the club's history” after a defeat against Brighton in the Premier League. An opinion corroborated by his playmaker Bruno Fernandes. Decisive scorer against Glasgow Rangers in the Europa League, the Portuguese midfielder pointed out the mentality of his teammates, explaining that “to play here you have to have this pressure, you have to have the courage to play for this club. We have to feel that every moment, every match, is a new chance to get closer to the place that this club deserves. Unfortunately for us, this season there have been too many ups and downs and every time we seem to be getting there, individual errors send us back into trouble.

While Ruben Amorim backtracked and conceded that his words had gone beyond his thoughts, Bruno Fernandes insisted on approving what his coach said. “When he says ‘the worst team in Manchester’ he’s talking about the position we’re in and when you look at where we are in the table we’re in the worst position we’ve ever been in.” What to re-motivate the troops before facing Fulham this Sunday evening?
