Nice, the pitiful exit

A fiasco from start to finish for OGC Nice. Engaged this season in the Europa League, the Riviera club has not won a single match in seven meetings. With two small draws and two points on the clock, Franck Haise's men are already eliminated from the competition even before the last day. Their setback on Thursday evening at Elfsborg proved fatal (1-0).

Penultimate in the standings before kick-off, the Aiglons knew they had no choice but to win to hope to secure a possible play-off place on the final day. They did not succeed and, moreover, even if they had won, the results of the other meetings would have condemned them. Against the Swedish club, the Niçois still tried to do well.

A shot on target, a goal for Elfsborg

They were the ones who had possession of the ball (69% over the entire match). In the first half, they shot as many shots as their opponents, but almost always off target (one shot on target in eight). During the second half, they almost deserved to score at least once, but despite outrageous domination, they could not find the fault.

Conversely, Elfsborg only had one shot on target… which turned into a goal, the work of Gustav Henriksson in the sixty-second minute of the match (1-0). Made quite late, the Nice changes brought an undeniable plus, notably the entry into play of Evann Guessand (67th). But nothing happened. Nice will try to save face on January 30 at home against Bodo-Glimt.
