After their victory against Tottenham on the last day (2-1), Arsenal had to win against Aston Villa, at home, to stay in the footsteps of Liverpool, leader with still one game in hand. Everything started well for the Gunners, thanks to Martinelli's opener (1-0, 35th).
Arsenal even thought they had done the hard part by making the break in the second half with Havertz (2-0, 55th). But the Londoners then conceded the equalizer at the end of the match with goals from Tielemans and Watkins (2-2, 60th and 68th). Arsenal even thought they would win in stoppage time, but a handball from Havertz was flagged (90th+2). A hard blow for Arteta and his men, still six points behind Liverpool.
