Visiting Montpellier this week, Didier Deschamps spoke about the delicate situation of the MHSC, currently last in Ligue 1.

Ten days ago, Didier Deschamps announced, against all expectations, that he will leave his position as coach of the France team after the 2026 World Cup, i.e. at the end of his contract. An announcement made during the launch of the Yellow Pieces operation, of which he is the godfather with Brigitte Macron.

On the occasion of his visit to Montpellier for the association founded in 1989, Didier Deschamps was questioned by the journalists present on site about the situation of the MHSC. Last in Ligue 1, the Hérault club is dangerously heading towards relegation to L2 at the end of the season. But for “DD”, there is still a slim hope.

Deschamps: “There is never a lost cause”

“No, there is no lost cause, there is never a lost cause. I know that Jean-Louis Gasset, who is in office, will do everything he can (to save the MHSC from relegation to Ligue 2, editor's note). But hey, the situation is complicated”however recognized the French coach in comments reported by the
Free Midday.

As a reminder, Montpellier is currently bottom of Ligue 1. With only 9 points gleaned in 17 days, the team led by Jean-Louis Gasset, who replaced Michel Der Zakarian during the season, has only won two small matches. It is thus 7 points behind the play-off, Saint-Etienne, and as much behind the first non-relegation, Nantes.
