A European football icon has shared a different view on racism in football.

Racism remains one of the persistent scourges that still plague the world of football. In recent years, several emblematic figures have been highlighted for their fierce fight against this problem.

Among them, Vinicius Jr. regularly stands out by denouncing the problematic behavior of which he is a victim, particularly in Spain. Others, like Mike Maignan in Italy, chose a radical method to protest against these racist attitudes: leaving the field as a sign of disagreement.

Another vision of the fight against racism

Ricardo Quaresma does not share this approach. For the Vitoria SC striker, the best response to discrimination comes on the pitch. This is what he said in an interview with Portuguese media Record.

“I’ve heard things about it. But am I going to stop playing because they call me ‘the gypsy’? I am gypsy. Because they call me “the black one”? My mother is African. Should we go out because these kinds of things are being heard? It’s my color, my belonging. Give me the ball and I’ll shut them up.”declared the 2016 European champion with Portugal.
