Guardiola, the huge tantrum

Pep Guardiola appeared to lash out at goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in a bizarre embrace after Manchester City suffered a late collapse at Brentford.

Phil Foden’s brace for City was canceled out by late goals from Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgaard as Brentford earned a 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Tuesday night. After the final whistle, Guardiola appeared angry with goalkeeper Ortega, who perhaps could have done better to push away Norgaard’s header. The Spaniard cut a frustrated figure but continued to kiss his keeper in telling scenes.

The strange reaction

City’s chances of defending their Premier League title appear to be over, something Guardiola has already conceded. But their brief renaissance, after three consecutive victories in all competitions, was undermined when they dropped points at Brentford. And it seems City’s struggles are really getting to Guardiola, judging by these kinds of reactions.

Guardiola hopes sixth-placed City can return to winning ways when they visit lowly Ipswich Town in their next Premier League encounter on Sunday.
