“We don’t remember anything except the Mbappé match. It was a very good match from him, he did very well, scored. The rest we must forget and look forward”. Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed after Real Madrid’s 5-2 defeat against FC Barcelona on Sunday evening in Saudi Arabia in the Spanish Super Cup final, three months after a 4-0 rout at the Bernabéu. The Italian technician, however, spared Kylian Mbappé, who opened the scoring in the 5th minute of the game, after a lightning counter-attack, for his first goal in a Clasico.
Catastrophic during the last Real-Barça with his ridiculous total of eight offsides, Mbappé this time was untenable with eight successful dribbles (out of the nine he attempted). Between devastating hooks, like in front of Alejandro Balde on his goal, accelerations with the ball and even roulette to erase Jules Koundé at the end of the match, Mbappé was impressive with the ball. This is a remarkable individual record for the number 9 of the Merengues since he is the first player to successfully complete eight dribbles in a Clasico over the last 10 seasons according to
Sofascore.
Mbappé better than Messi and Vinicius
Mbappé is not an extraordinary dribbler, but his explosive speed allows him to stand out in this “dribbling” statistic. Over the last decade, he has therefore done better than elusive players in small spaces like Lionel Messi (at Barça until 2021), Neymar (until 2017) and his teammate Vinicius (at Real since 2018). As well as very talented players like Andrés Iniesta, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
In any case, Mbappé, at the bottom of the hole especially during the Clasico on October 26, is in great shape. He is now at 15 goals in all competitions this season with Real, after remaining silent in the Merengues’ last three matches (against Valencia, Deportiva Minera and Mallorca). Next matches for Real against Celta, Wednesday in the Copa del Rey, Las Palmas, Sunday in the league, then Salzburg in the Champions League, three days later.
