Thuram, things are going wrong

Author of an excellent first part of the season at Inter, with 12 goals in Serie A and another achievement in the Champions League, Marcus Thuram perhaps needed a breather. At least that’s what his trainer Simone Inzaghi decided. In the space of 10 days, Marcus Thuram was substituted at half-time against Atalanta in the semi-final of the Italian Super Cup, remained on the bench during the final against AC Milan, then is content with a substitute role, Sunday in Venice, in Serie A.

Marcus Thuram is suddenly put in competition with his understudy at the Nerazzurri, Mehdi Taremi. The Iranian striker scored a goal and gave an assist during the Super Cup final which escaped the Interists against the Milanese rival. Taremi played the entire match to leave Thuram aside until the end.

Taremi no better than Thuram

That said, Taremi also hasn’t earned his starting spot alongside Lautaro Martinez. The former FC Porto striker had little impact during the reigning champion’s meeting at Venezia this Sunday. Thuram was started in place of the Iranian in the 63rd minute. The French international has a chance of returning to the starting XI next week, against Bologna on Wednesday and Empoli on Sunday. Inter will then play their 5th LDC match in Prague against Sparta.

A single goal from Matteo Darmian in the 16th minute allowed Inter to win. The defender took advantage of a ball released by the Venetian goalkeeper, Filip Stankovic, Dejan’s son, trained at Inter and who is on loan from the Nerazzurri to Venezia. Inter comes back to one point behind leader Napoli, who faces Hellas Verona in the evening. The Lombard team will, however, be two matches behind at the end of this 20th day. Note that Benjamin Pavard made his return to the competition after a month and a half of absence by entering in the 76th minute.
