Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich prodigy, is shaking up the club’s well-established habits. At just 21 years old, the German international has made two demands that put the Bavarian leaders in a delicate situation: a significant salary increase and the introduction of a record release clause of 175 million euros. Information revealed by the German newspaper Bild.

A revaluation to establish itself among executives

Currently paid 10 million euros per year, Jamal Musiala is still far from Bayern’s highest earners. For comparison, Harry Kane earns around 24 million euros per year, while Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Müller receive 20 and 17 million euros respectively.

Building on an exceptional year, where he was voted national player of the year, Musiala believes that his key role in the team deserves remuneration commensurate with his performances. His entourage, represented by the “ICM Stellar” agency, is pleading for a significant increase in value which would make him one of the highest paid players at the club.

An unprecedented release clause for Bayern

But that’s not all. The Musiala clan is also demanding the introduction of a release clause in his contract, an unprecedented practice for Bayern Munich. The amount of this clause would be set at 175 million euros, an astronomical figure which reflects the young attacking midfielder’s status as one of the most promising talents in Europe. Historically, Bayern has always refused this type of clause, preferring to maintain total control over the departures of its players. Accepting this request could set a precedent, raising similar expectations from other senior or promising young players.

After 18 months without an extension, the negotiations around Musiala’s contract are becoming a priority subject for Munich leaders. If they accept his demands, they will have to reconcile their historical principles with the realities of modern football. Bayern know they are playing big: Musiala is considered the future of the club and one of the rising stars of world football. However, giving in on such fundamental principles could weaken their model.
