After months of personal and sporting challenges, Neymar suffered another hard blow. The Brazilian, often faced with injuries which have marked his last two seasons, seems to have stopped in his tracks once again. A dream dear to the Brazilian star collapsed, leaving him with a bitter taste.
This time, it is neither about the terrain nor a physical problem. Neymar will not join Inter Miami, the American club where his former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez play. Despite the hopes he had expressed on CNN, the coach of the Florida club, Javier Mascherano, extinguished all hope. “Neymar is a great player, all the coaches want him. But MLS rules on salary cap make his arrival impossible”declared the Argentinian during a press conference.
The dream of reforming the MSN gone for Neymar
During a recent interview, “Ney” nevertheless suggested that he would very much like to reform the legendary MSN trio (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) which had made Barcelona vibrate. “It would be amazing to play with them again. They are my friends and we still talk regularly. Who knows? Football is full of surprises »he confided, while emphasizing that he was happy at Al Hilal, his current club in Saudi Arabia.
But the economic reality of MLS has caught up with the dream. Recalling that the salary cap imposed by the North American championship drastically limits club spending, Mascherano put an end to the possibility of seeing the former Parisian settle down in Florida.
A future on hold
Under contract with Al Hilal until 2025, the Auriverde international will have to wait before considering a new chapter in his career. While Messi and Suarez shine together in MLS, the idea of seeing the legendary trio again may never come to fruition.
For Neymar, this new disillusionment adds to a series of recent setbacks. If football is indeed full of surprises, the Brazilian will still have to wait to hope for a happier outcome.
