The supporters of Lens Racing Club may have difficulty sleeping in the coming days. After losing their starting goalkeeper Brice Samba, transferred to Rennes, and awaiting other important sales in the coming days, the Artesian club was the victim of a big blow this week.

Lens had announced the loan with option to purchase Pau Lopez from Olympique de Marseille. Already loaned to Girona during the first part of the season, the Spanish goalkeeper was released by his hometown team. But Girona finally changed its mind and retained its doorman!

On Wednesday afternoon, Lens was forced to cancel a transfer which had nevertheless been completed and announced on its official media the day before! The Team provides some details on this incredible scenario: Girona simply failed to send the final documents necessary to finalize the deal.

The Spanish club would not be totally opposed to the departure of Pau Lopez, but not before January 29, i.e. after the last two matches of the regular phase of the Champions League, against AC Milan and Arsenal. A decision which would have plunged the Lensois leaders into deep anger, while incomprehension would also reign in the ranks of Olympique de Marseille, to which the player still belongs… “Girona FC informed Olympique de Marseille today of its firm desire to keep the player until January 29, an unacceptable condition for Racing which thus renounces this signing”wrote RC Lens in a short press release. A milestone that will go down in history.
