RC Lens, looking for a replacement for Brice Samba, was forced to abandon the transfer of Pau Lopez, goalkeeper of Olympique de Marseille. Although an agreement was reached between the two clubs and the player, FC Girona, where Lopez is currently on loan, refused to release the goalkeeper until January 29.

This decision forced Lens to abandon the operation, despite advanced preparations, including a presentation of the player on social networks.

The reasons for the blockade of Girona

According to a press release from the Lensois club, Girona cited the impossibility of registering a new goalkeeper for the group stage of the Champions League, which ends on January 29. This setback was deemed “unacceptable” by Lens, who hoped to quickly finalize the arrival of Pau Lopez to strengthen their defense.

With Brice Samba now in Rennes, RC Lens must turn to other options to find a goalkeeper capable of competing with Hervé Koffi, current holder.
