FC Barcelona won a valuable administrative victory before winning against Athletic Bilbao (2-0) in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup. The provisional authorization to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor triggered an extraordinary celebration from Joan Laporta, causing an outcry in Spain.

Inappropriate gestures and tensions with LaLiga and the RFEF

A few minutes before kick-off, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) validated a precautionary measure allowing Barça to register its two players. Euphoric, Joan Laporta expressed his joy with shouts, arms of honor, and insults that several observers interpreted as directed against LaLiga and the RFEF. The Spanish press reported tensions in the official forum, particularly with representatives of regional associations.

According to witnesses, Laporta also kicked objects present on site. This attitude aroused surprise and indignation among officials, despite the diplomacy displayed by the president of the RFEF, Rafael Louzan, who preferred to calm things down.

A decision that divides

The intervention of the CSD is seen by some as a favor to Barça, and voices like that of the president of Athletic Bilbao, Jon Uriarte, criticize this situation which he describes as “grotesque”. Barça, for its part, is delighted with this decision, but remains under pressure while this measure is provisional and the merits of the case remain to be decided.
