The announcement had the effect of a small bombshell. During an interview with the 1 p.m. news on TF1 on Wednesday, Didier Deschamps announced that he would leave his position as coach of the France team at the end of his contract, i.e. at the end of the World Cup. 2026. Therefore, the question arises: who will succeed him?

Unsurprisingly, the name of Zinedine Zidane has come up repeatedly since this announcement. The former number 10 of the Blues even appears as the overwhelming favorite. It must be said that the former Real Madrid coach has repeatedly proclaimed his desire to one day sit on the bench of the France team. It remains to be seen what he will think of it in a year and a half.

Genesio far behind Zidane, but ahead of Henry

While waiting to find out more, “Zizou”, without a position since 2021, is the track favored by football fans. According to a survey carried out by the daily L’Equipe, 72.35% of voters designated the Marseille native as the big favorite to succeed Didier Deschamps. Also cited among the potential candidates, Thierry Henry ranks only 3e with 6.85% of the votes.

Between the two 98 world champions, it was Bruno Genesio who interfered. The Losc coach, who is doing excellent work in the North, received 9.98% of the votes. An option which would therefore not displease some of the French, who however largely want to see Zidane led Kylian Mbappé and his teammates.
