While Manchester City seemed close to strengthening its offensive sector with a promising player, negotiations today seem to be deadlocked. The option that had emerged in recent days should ultimately not materialize, forcing the Sky Blues to review their recruitment strategy in January.
A stillborn track for Manchester City
According to Markus Krosche, sporting director of Eintracht Frankfurt, no contact has been established with Manchester City regarding Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian striker, author of an exceptional first part of the season in the Bundesliga with 18 goals and 11 assists, was however at the center of rumors in recent weeks.
When asked about this, Krosche was categorical: “There was no contact, no call. Nothing at all.” A statement which puts an end to speculation about an imminent transfer of Marmoush to England, despite supposed interest from City, but also from Liverpool and Arsenal.
An attractive but non-transferable profile
Manchester City, looking for an attacker to relieve Erling Haaland, saw Marmoush as an ideal alternative. His versatility and efficiency in front of goal had attracted the Mancunian leaders, ready to make an offer of 60 million euros according to Sky Germany.
However, Eintracht Frankfurt seems determined to keep their key player, who arrived free in 2023 and has since become a pillar of their attack. The prospect of losing such an asset in the middle of the season does not suit the ambitions of the German club.
Guardiola must review his plans
This refusal leaves Manchester City in a delicate position. Since the departure of Julian Alvarez last summer, the Sky Blues have struggled to find a backup for Haaland. Marmoush, with his Bundesliga experience and remarkable performances, seemed to tick all the boxes.
For now, Pep Guardiola will therefore have to look for an alternative or be content with his current squad. As competitions intensify, City could regret this missed move in the transfer market.
