Former FFF president Noël Le Graët reacted to the announcement of the upcoming departure in 2026, after the World Cup, of Didier Deschamps at the head of the France team. It was he who had the coach extended for another 4 years, just after the World Cup final in Qatar lost to Argentina. This extension played a role in the hasty end of his mandate. Already targeted by the Ministry of Sports after accusations of sexual harassment (the case was dismissed by the Paris prosecutor’s office last October), the octogenarian was forced to leave the body after criticism of Zinedine Zidane, that some people wanted to see at the head of the France team, instead of Deschamps.

Targeted from all sides, including by Kylian Mbappé for example, Le Graët finally resigned the following February. The Zidane case is definitely not in his favor. The Breton businessman once again expressed his doubts about the possible candidacy of the former Real Madrid coach. “I don’t know (who could take over, editor’s note), frankly, that’s up to the executive committee. So much happens in two years. Who will be the starting players? What form will the players be in? What will be the possible game plan depending on the quality of the players who are now above the rest? So it’s too early to talk about it, it’s the Comex which will decide. The Zidane choice? I don’t really know if he’s really interested, I haven’t had any contact with him. But it’s the job of those who are in place» he assures RMC.
