Sent off during the Merengue’s victory in Valencia (2-1), Vinicius Jr. received a two-match suspension for an altercation with opposing goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski, followed by protests towards the referee. But for Ancelotti, this sanction is unfair. “The decision to suspend Vini Jr. for two matches is not correct,” he declared firmly.
The Italian technician also wanted to highlight the incessant pressure his player is under: “Me and Vini hear what’s happening on the ground. I say it again, it’s hard to be Vini Jr.”
Diverted criticism
Ancelotti hit out at those who accuse Vinicius’ attitude of being provocative: “When people talk about Vini Jr.’s ‘provocation,’ the insults he receives take a back seat.” Words which echo the numerous times where the Brazilian striker has been the victim of racist insults, as was again the case last Friday.
