The former Paris Saint-Germain striker, now at Al-Hilal, recently made statements which risk causing a stir in France. During an interview with CNN, Neymar did not hesitate to give his strong opinion on a sensitive issue concerning European football. These comments, which echo those of Cristiano Ronaldo a few days earlier, relaunch the debate on the quality of our championship.

“The Saudi Pro League is better”

Neymar compared Ligue 1, where he played for six years, with the Saudi Pro League, where he currently plays. And his verdict is final: “The level of the Saudi Pro League is increasing and, from what I see, it is better than that of Ligue 1.” If he recognizes certain advantages in the French championship, Neymar affirms that the progression of Saudi football today exceeds that of his former championship.

The 32-year-old striker, who left PSG a year and a half ago, also praised the merits of his new destination:
“Saudi Arabia surprised me positively. The people, the country, the cities, the culture… I think it’s a country that continues to develop.”

A criticism of Neymar that weighs heavily

These comments echo those of Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently downplayed the importance of Ligue 1 in the European landscape. But for Neymar, who has been a central figure in the French championship, his criticism carries extra weight. After six seasons spent in Paris, his judgment risks sparking lively debates, both among supporters and in the media.

If he is happy in Saudi Arabia, Neymar also mentioned a possible departure to Inter Miami, to find Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. A new adventure which could mark another turning point in the Brazilian’s career.

With these statements, Neymar leaves no one indifferent and confirms that he has not turned the page on European football without a final well-felt tackle.
