André Ayew, striker from Le Havre, reunited this Sunday with his former club, Olympique de Marseille, during a trip to the Vélodrome for the 16th day of Ligue 1. Author of the Normans’ only goal, which he did not wish to celebrate out of respect for the Marseille team, but which earned him the applause of the supporters, the Ghanaian international was unable to prevent the defeat of his team by the score of 5-1.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the 35-year-old left winger expressed his deep attachment to the Marseille team. The native of Seclin, who wore the Olympian tunic between 2007 and 2015, showed great pride in having defended the colors of OM, which he considers to be the club of his dreams.
“It’s been 10 years since I last set foot on this lawn”
“The old man (Benoît Cheyrou, editor’s note) knows what this club represents for me, my family. It was very special, it had been 10 years since I had last set foot on this pitch, and today I was very moved, very happy to return to this stadium, with the supporters and what surrounds this club”he confided to the microphone of DAZN.
“The ovation? I want to thank all the people of Marseille for this evening, it touched me from the bottom of my heart. This club has given me a lot and it shows that I was able to leave my mark here, especially after everything the ‘padre’ (Abedi Pelé, editor’s note) did. I managed to do it, it showed me that the supporters saw it, they appreciate this love and I do the same. It’s always been my dream club, I’ve had a lot of success here and I thank them from the bottom of my heart, I hope we keep this love.” Ayew concluded.
