Mbappé, the bad news

Kylian Mbappé is in good shape. After scoring in almost all of Real Madrid’s matches in December 2024 (notably against Atalanta in the Champions League and against Pachuca in the final of the Intercontinental Cup), the number 9 of the Merengues hurt during the match La Liga in Valencia last Friday. He was certainly not decisive, but he obtained a penalty, missed by Jude Bellingham (55th), before shaking the net in the process (60th) to finally see his goal canceled by the video referee.

But Mbappé’s goal at Mestalla was valid! When he was thrown by his English teammate into the Chés area, the captain of the France team was on the verge of offside. On the 3D modeling given by La Liga on TV after the cancellation of the goal, the prodigy from Bondy is offside with one part of his foot and a small part of his knee. But another video analyzed by account Archive VAR assures that Mbappé was well covered by Dimitri Foulquier.

Mbappé and Vinicus resting Monday

Mocked for his record eight offsides last October during the Clasico lost against Barça (0-4 at Bernabéu), Mbappé was this time the victim of a possible refereeing error on this disallowed goal against Valencia. He thus remains stuck at 10 goals in 17 La Liga matches, for a total of 14 goals in all competitions (he scored twice in the Champions League).

After its success in Valencia which allows it to take the lead in La Liga with two points more than Atlético, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real continues this Monday with its 16th final of the Copa del Rey against a Spanish D4, before leaving for Saudi Arabia to play its Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Mallorca on Thursday (possible final on Sunday against the winner of Bilbao-Barça). Mbappé is rested like Vinicius to face Deportiva Minera. Brahim Diaz and Endrick should start in the offensive sector.
