For the youngest among you, the name Diego Costa may not mean much. But for those who already have a little bit of experience, the Spanish-Brazilian striker is a well-known face in European football. After having delighted Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea, and having defended the colors of the Spanish selection (24 caps, 10 goals), the native of Lagarto left Europe in 2021 then experienced several clubs in Brazil, with a small interlude in Wolverhampton in the meantime.

But since the start of 2025 and the end of his contract with Gremio, he has been free. Author of one goal and two assists in fourteen championship matches in 2024, Diego Costa is therefore looking for a new challenge. According to various Brazilian and Spanish media, he could even return to a club where he has already played in the past.

A return to La Liga

It’s not Atlético, nor even Chelsea, but Real Valladolid. He actually played the 2009/2010 season with the Castile and Leon team, scoring 9 goals in 36 games, performing well enough to be recruited by Atlético de Madrid. Also coveted by other clubs in Brazil, the 36-year-old wants to return to La Liga.

His agent is therefore already working on several avenues, including that leading to Valladolid, Ronaldo Nazario’s club which should however soon be sold by the legend of Brazilian football. Red lantern in La Liga, the Vallisoletanos are looking for reinforcements to get out of the red zone and Costa could well come and give them a nice helping hand. To be continued…
