Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his ‘dream’ of playing in the Saudi Pro League, as the Portuguese superstar sparked a wave of transfers to the Middle East.

After seeing his contract at Manchester United terminated in acrimonious circumstances, CR7 made the decision to step out of his comfort zone and leave European football. A record contract has been signed at Al-Nassr, which will expire in the summer of 2025.

There is talk of Ronaldo embarking on a new challenge as he prepares to celebrate his 40th birthday, but the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has often spoken of his happiness in Riyadh. He is committed to a long-term project in Saudi Arabia and intends to see it through.

Cr7, what’s next?

Ronaldo told official Saudi Pro League media, having been joined in that division by a number of other big names: “ For me, it is an honor that the league is growing and that many star players are coming to make the league even better and more competitive. To be the first – let’s say a star – to come here is an honor, but what I look forward to is that the next five to ten years the league continues to improve, not just the first teams but also the academies.

“Not just for the future of Saudi (players) and the league, but for the country and to compete with other leagues – that’s my dream. And that’s what I’m going to try to help the country and the league achieve and be there at that level. »

Ronaldo has no plans to break his contract with Al-Nassr, with more trophies in his sights. He only enjoyed one trophy in the Middle East and said when asked to choose his favorite memory: “Probably when we won the first title (the 2023 King Salman Arab Club Cup, in which he scored both goals in the 2-1 victory over Al Hilal that took the crown). The final against Al-Hilal was probably the most intense we have experienced.

“You know, when you win titles, things come easier, and to have the privilege of winning my first trophy in my first year here was incredible. But I want more. I will continue to push and help my Al-Nassr team win titles. I think this year will be a good year for Al-Nassr. »
