Wojciech Szczesny didn’t come out of retirement for nothing. The Polish goalkeeper plays his first match with FC Barcelona on Saturday evening, during a trip to the Barbastro municipal sports stadium for the round of 16 of the Spanish Cup, more commonly known as the Copa del Rey.
Last summer, Wojciech Szczesny announced the end of his career before returning to service with the Catalan giant. In October, the 34-year-old goalkeeper arrived to compensate for the serious injury of Marc-André ter Stegen. But Hansi Flick, the German coach of FC Barcelona, maintained his confidence in Iñaki Peña.
This round of the Copa del Rey was an opportunity, as is often the case in clubs, to rotate the goalkeepers. We also note the return of Ronald Araujo, the Uruguayan defender, to the starting eleven of the Blaugrana.
