OM have secured the services of their first recruit of the January transfer window. According to RMC Sport, the Marseille club is preparing to welcome an experienced central defender, free of any contract after a stint in Saudi Arabia. This player, expected in Marseille on Monday, will strengthen a defensive sector which could be weakened by the departures of Chancel Mbemba and Lilian Brassier.
OM have their first reinforcement of the winter
This is Luiz Felipe, Brazilian central defender naturalized Italian, who has a cape with the Squadra Azzurra. The 26-year-old stood out in Serie A, where he played for seven seasons. After starting out in Italy with Salernitana, he spent six years at Lazio before joining Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. His experience in high-level competitions, notably in Serie A and the Europa League, should be an asset for OM.
Luiz Felipe also played for Brazil’s youth teams before choosing to represent Italy. His versatility and defensive solidity had attracted the attention of many coaches, including Roberto De Zerbi, who often faced him in Serie A when he coached Sassuolo.
A strategic and free signature
This arrival, which takes place without transfer compensation, allows OM to compensate for possible departures in its defensive sector, while controlling its expenses. With an 18-month contract, the Marseille club secures the services of a reliable and experienced player.
Other reinforcements could follow in the coming days. The name of Nicola Zalewski, mentioned in the media in recent days, still appears among the avenues studied to strengthen the left side.
With Luiz Felipe, Olympique de Marseille shows that it is approaching this transfer window with pragmatism and ambition. Supporters will hope that this first signing will mark the start of a series of quality reinforcements.
