We will not go so far as to write that Manchester City is cured. But Pep Guardiola’s team is doing a little better, that’s for sure. A little over two weeks before this crucial trip to PSG in the Champions League, the Skyblues are trying to get back on track in the league.
After this incredible series of nine defeats in 12 matches in all competitions, Man City has just had two consecutive successes. At Leicester (0-2) during the last match of 2024, and against West Ham (4-1) this Saturday as part of the 20th day of the Premier League.
Savinho in all the good moves
The Citizens can rely on their in-form man, Savinho. Already the author of a goal and an assist at Leicester, the short-lived Troyes player did it again by being involved in his team’s first three goals this Saturday. The Brazilian first opened the scoring, with a shot deflected by the unfortunate Coufal (10th). And it was then on a long cross from his left wing that Savinho found the head of the inevitable Erling Haaland (42nd).
It is not very difficult to score goals at West Ham at the moment, we saw it last weekend with Liverpool’s card at the London Stadium (0-5). Haaland took the opportunity to improve his statistics after a great collective action, on a new service from Savinho (55th). And after a failed relaunch from the Hammers, Kevin De Bruyne allowed Phil Foden to add to the score (58th).
On arrival, we have not yet found the citizen steamroller, since West Ham existed at times (56% ball possession, 10 shots against 17 for the visitors). The Skyblues defense also conceded a new goal, signed Niclas Fullkrug (71st). But, at least, it seems to be heading in the right direction for Man City. PSG has been warned…
