This is another grotesque situation that FC Barcelona has had to face for several days. Often faced with financial problems which have already exposed them to thorny cases on the transfer market and the management of their workforce, the Catalan leaders are in the middle of a legal battle to register Dani Olmo for the second part of the season. Arriving this summer for 60 million euros after a grandiose season with RB Leizpig and Spain, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder got off to a flying start with Barça as his six goals in 15 appearances with the culé club can attest. But now, its promising beginnings may not see any follow-up.
While the latest Iberian information claimed that the defector from Dinamo Zagreb could also miss the Champions League and no longer be called up for Spain, tension is inevitably rising in the Olmo clan. This Friday, an exclusive interview with his agent Andy Bara was published by the media GiveMeSport. In this interview, the 42-year-old agent explains that the situation is necessarily difficult to cope with for the European champion with La Roja this summer: “It’s a stressful situation for Dani, as for any other player. But he’s a great player and a great person, he tries to stay calm. Of course, Dani is a winner and he likes to play the matches, not watch them!”
Dani Olmo wants to stay at FC Barcelona
Obviously, this particular situation gives several perspectives to possible courtiers of the attacking midfielder. In recent days, several rumors explained that big clubs were on the lookout for the big move while Dani Olmo could be left free by Barça. However, the player seems reluctant to leave Catalonia as stated by his agent, convinced that his player will stay with the Camp Nou residents for a long time: “we do not negotiate with any club. Dani is a Barcelona player and he wants to be a Barcelona player. He made great efforts in his life to be at Barcelona. It had been his desire for a long time. Barcelona is the first and last option! Dani, his father, his family, me, we don’t think of any other options. (…) Of course, the best players are those who are free, but emotions also count. We never made a career decision for money. Dani plays football because he loves the game, he made a huge effort to be at Barcelona. I’m also happy to have Dani at Barcelona, he’s one of the best players in the world at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Relaunched on Barça’s difficulties in qualifying his player, Andy Bara seemed quite calm about the long-term commitment of his player with Barça. For him, the Catalan leaders will find a solution quickly: “we respect President Laporta and Deco. They made a big effort to bring Dani in last summer. We like their project, it’s a great project for the future, one of the best in the world in the coming years. We are convinced that Barcelona will win all the titles in the future, as was the case during the Messi era. The player, the family, me. We all wanted Dani to be in Barcelona. To be honest, I feel calm. It may seem strange but I believe in President Laporta, in Deco and I think they will find a solution for Dani. It’s a big club.» Finally, the former Croatian defender took the opportunity to make a small dig at La Liga, far from being conciliatory with Barça according to him: “I believe Barcelona will finalize everything and make it happen. La Liga should help them, instead of announcing that Dani is not available for the national team, but I am sure he will be at Barca for many years. He is happy in this club and Dani wants to stay there. This therefore promises to get people talking in Spain as the outcome of this burning issue is more than imminent.
