For Paris Saint-Germain, the arrival of 2025 also means a return to reality. Certainly, the Parisian club reigns supreme in Ligue 1, with ten points ahead of its first pursuers, Olympique de Marseille, who have a game in hand, and AS Monaco. But in the Champions League, the situation is much more worrying.

After six days played in the regular phase, the French champion is in a modest 25th place. A position which, for the moment, would not even allow them to qualify for the play-offs, despite a delay of only one point. The next meetings, against Manchester City on January 22, then against Stuttgart on January 29, will be decisive for the European future of the Parisians.

Nasri casts a chill over Parisian ambitions

Optimism, however, is not appropriate in France. Samir Nasri, star consultant on Canal+, was skeptical about the Rouge et Bleu’s chances of lifting the big-eared cup this season. “I don’t see them going through with it”he said in an interview for the channel YouTube The Zone. “There are too many gaps in this squad,” judged the former Marseillais. But PSG, on a smaller scale, is like Real Madrid, you don’t wait for them now, you wait for them from February and March, that’s where everything plays out, and that’s where the great players are revealed. »

The former OM and Arsenal attacking midfielder pointed out the Parisian summer transfer window, which he considers to fall short of expectations: “Are we being too hard on PSG? Last season, they made a Champions League semi-final, they lost Mbappé, and Luis Enrique tells us that the team will be better without Mbappé the following season. They had carte blanche on the transfer market to target the profiles they needed. For me, the work has not been done at this level and it is therefore normal to be more critical with PSG than with Brest. With its budget, PSG must be quarter-finalists in the Champions League every season. (…) I expect PSG higher than what it shows us. »
