The good deal turns into a disaster for Barça. Having managed to register Dani Olmo with La Liga after his summer transfer for 55 million euros from Leipzig, thanks to the long unavailability of Andreas Christensen, the Catalan club was however required to provide sufficient financial guarantees by December 31 to renew the deal and re-validate the player’s license.
On Tuesday evening, however, La Liga decided to block the registration of the Spanish international – and striker Pau Victor – due to failure to have received the documents requested from President Laporta. And this despite a 100 million euro deal hastily concluded with Middle Eastern companies for the operation over 20 years of VIP locations within the new Camp Nou.
A financial disaster for Barça
From then on, three options emerge: either Barça finds the necessary liquidity in record time to allow Dani Olmo to play again quickly; either the latter takes his troubles patiently and accepts the idea of no longer playing on the field this season, hoping that the next off-season will allow the Blaugrana management to replenish the club’s coffers; either the versatile attacking midfielder decides to leave FC Barcelona, free.
Therein lies the whole problem for Barça, the player’s agent last summer having taken care to include a contractual clause providing for this specific case, and therefore releasing the person concerned from his obligations. Worse still, such a scenario requires President Laporta to pay Dani Olmo his entire salary until June 2030. That is to say the tidy sum of 48 million euros.
For now, the 26-year-old Iberian, Catalan by birth, has made it known that he wishes to remain loyal to FC Barcelona, and has also trained normally again today. However, the pressure promises to increase in the coming weeks, and there is no shortage of contenders for such talent. “Several European clubs, including PSG, have already sought information,” reports L’Equipe this Wednesday evening.
