Monday,
FC Nantes formalized the arrival of Anthony Lopes from Olympique Lyonnais. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has been released “by mutual agreement” of the last six months of his contract, which ran until June 30, 2025. It is therefore a 24-year adventure which is coming to an end.
Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to pay tribute to him.
“Anthony, you have been and will remain a true champion, an exceptional fighter, a legend for OL, a man with a heart also for your family and friends, a good guy, a beautiful person. Thank you for everything you have brought to OL, to the supporters and to the club,” wrote the former president of OL on X.
Lopes, a relaxation in the hierarchy of OL goalkeepers
Trained within the Rhone club, the native of Givors had spent his entire career there until now. During the last decade, he was even the incumbent in his position. Except that the Portuguese international has completely fallen down the hierarchy since the off-season.
It is now
the Brazilian Lucas Perri who occupies the starting place in the Lyon goal. Rémy Descamps was hired last August to act as an understudy. Anthony Lopes himself was not included on the list of players likely to play in the Europa League with OL.
