Neal Maupay, the terrible tackle

Neal Maupay has only scored 2 small goals in 12 games with Olympique de Marseille this season. But that’s not what’s going to stop the French striker from continuing to falter, both on the pitch and on social media.

Sunday, in the middle of the Christmas break, the former Nice and Saint-Etienne player attacked his previous club, Everton, where he remained at odds with the supporters. “Every time I have a bad day I look at the Everton score and smile”wrote Maupay, shortly after the Toffees’ defeat against Nottingham Forest (0-2).

Maupay doesn’t stop cheating

Obviously, Maupay received a certain number of responses, always very kind. And a fan of the Liverpool club notably told him that he would be caught the next time he played against Everton. Player’s response? “See you next season in the Champions League,” wrote Maupay before correcting his “Champions League” with “Championship”. Only 15th in the Premier League, Everton is in fact threatened with relegation to the second division.

Funny or not, Maupay’s posts are not necessarily well received by OM. “It doesn’t fit with the humility that the Marseille board & staff want to establish, reacted insider Mohamed Toubache-Ter, well informed behind the scenes of Ligue 1 clubs. It can be funny once, twice: it has a fresh, atypical side but now, it’s no longer funny. When he leaves Marseille, will he do the same? »
