According to the Spanish daily AS, Carlo Ancelotti still firmly believes in Arda Güler. Despite a complicated start to the season, marked by injuries and fierce competition, the Italian technician is working to optimize the performances of the young Turkish player. His objective is clear: to find the ideal position for Güler to express his full potential within a successful Real Madrid.
Arda Güler, 19, arrived at Real Madrid a year and a half ago with the label of great hope. Rather promising for his first campaign, he has had a rather checkered first part of the 2024/2025 season. With 21 appearances, including only 7 starts, he displays modest statistics: one goal scored and three assists. His adaptation is, however, hampered by a structural problem: at Real, there is no real playmaker, which forces him to evolve in positions that are new to him.
An adaptation still in progress for Arda Guler
Ancelotti would therefore have decided to position Güler on the right wing, an area where he can use his explosiveness, his creativity and his ability to eliminate opponents. Glued to the line, the ex-Fenerbahçe prodigy has more freedom to dribble, cross and shoot, as evidenced by his notable performances against Girona (one goal) and Rayo Vallecano (two assists).
However, everything is not yet perfect. Ancelotti expects more from his young prodigy. “He still needs to improve his choices in certain transitions”said the coach after the match against Liverpool. Two recurring problems were also highlighted: his lack of defensive withdrawal and frequent ball losses in dangerous areas. During the match against Rayo Vallecano, his lack of marking on Unai López cost the team dearly.
Competition remains fierce
In addition to these tactical aspects, Güler also faces strong competition on the right flank, occupied by players like Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz. The Turk is currently the 17th player in the squad in terms of playing time (676 minutes), just ahead of Dani Ceballos.
But Ancelotti has no doubts about his long-term potential. “He is a versatile offensive player who can play in several positions: winger, playmaker or even attacker.
recalled the coach in November. The Madrid coach hopes that this position on the right wing will allow Güler to gain confidence and consistency.
