The 17-year-old striker continues to bask in the spotlight, capping a stellar 2024 with a new accolade, cementing his status as one of football’s brightest talents. After winning the Kopa Trophy and also being named a Golden Boy, the young striker received his third individual accolade on Friday when he was named the Globe Soccer Award’s Best Emerging Player.
In the Globe Soccer vote, Yamal came out on top against a group of formidable contenders. Among them were his FC Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi, Manchester United duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, Manchester City’s Savinho and Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz. He played a vital role in Spain’s victory at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany, which could have propelled him onto the podium ahead of the rest.
The idol of Yamal
Asked by Mundo Deportivo how he deals with the immense praise and scrutiny at such a young age, Yamal showed his pragmatic mindset.
“ Ultimately, I focus on thinking and playing football. I am incredibly grateful to all the legends who spoke kindly about me, especially Neymar, who has always been my idol“, he said.
Currently sidelined with an ankle injury, Yamal is working towards a quick recovery to return to action with Barcelona. His next goal is to return to form in time for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club on January 8.
