In an interview published on the Atlético de Madrid website, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the general director of the Colchoneros, did not fail to attack the new format of the Super League. As a reminder, after the stillborn project of this competition, the promoter A22 Sports Management proposed, on December 17, the Unify League, made up of 96 teams from 55 different countries, divided into four leagues: the Star League, the Gold League, the Blue League and the Union League.

An evolution which “will create uncertainty for TV channels and sponsors, and with that, slow down the growth of competitions in their current format” according to the Madrid leader, who took the opportunity to reaffirm his support for current UEFA competitions. “UEFA and the European Club Association (…) have adapted their competition with the aim of allowing clubs from more countries to participate, thanks to the three European competitions: the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League ». The message got through.
