Currently recovering from a serious knee injury suffered last October, Real Madrid’s iconic right-back Dani Carvajal has spoken about his plans for the future. Under contract with the Merengues until 2026, the Spaniard does not rule out leaving the club of his life for an exotic destination: Qatar.

“I will not play against Real”: Carvajal confides

In an interview with the media EsquireCarvajal explained that he has no plans to stay in Europe if he leaves Real Madrid: “I always said that I would never play against Real Madrid, neither in the Champions League, nor in Spain. So if I have to leave, it would probably be to a destination like Qatar.” This statement is also linked to the presence of his brother-in-law and former teammate Joselu, currently a player in Qatar, who encourages him to join him: “Joselu always tells me: ‘I’m waiting for you here, I’ll keep your right side’.”

With 427 appearances for Madrid and an exceptional record including 6 Champions Leagues and 27 trophies in total, Carvajal could therefore choose to end his career in a less demanding championship.

A decision influenced by his injury

Sidelined until the end of the season, Carvajal is considering his future after a career marked by exploits with Real Madrid and the Spanish selection. With exotic offers like that of Qatar, the idea of offering one last challenge far from European pressure seems to appeal to the 32-year-old.
