For several weeks, the future of Jean-Pierre Papin at Olympique de Marseille has been the subject of much discussion. Announced close to a departure to coach Martigues, the OM legend finally seems to have opted for continuity. According to Foot Mercatonegotiations with the Martégal club, bottom of Ligue 2, have reportedly stagnated, making a departure now unlikely.
A calmer climate in Marseille
Initially, internal tensions within OM fueled the idea of Papin leaving. However, the latter would have calmed down, allowing JPP to calmly resume his duties as coach of Pro 2, currently third in his group in National 3.
At a press conference, Pablo Longoria was satisfied with his work: “Jean-Pierre Papin, we are happy with his work with the Pro 2. (…) The objective of the Pro 2 is clear: prepare players to play at the professional level with adults.” From now on, the 1991 Ballon d’Or seems determined to continue this mission, aiming for a good second half of the season with the reserve team.
