Away from the field, Paul Pogba had a happy end to the year. Firstly due to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport to reduce to 18 months his suspension for doping pronounced by the Italian anti-doping agency in September 2023. Enough to allow him to foresee a return to the field next March and this even though he had initially been suspended for four years.

More recently, the French world champion also saw justice deliver its verdict in the case of kidnapping and extortion of which he was the victim, with sentences of up to eight years in prison, his brother Mathias being himself sentenced to one year in prison under an electronic bracelet.

The duration of convalescence is not known

“There are no winners in this case which involves members of my family and people I have known since childhood”reacted the Ile-de-France midfielder, assuring that he wanted to “turn the page”. Determined to get back on the pitch, the native of Lagny-sur-Marne is now looking for a new club. Many avenues have been mentioned in recent weeks, leading to Marseille, Brazil, Saudi Arabia or the United States.

But for now, Paul Pogba is in Costa Rica. And not just to have a good time during the end-of-year holidays. According to information from the local daily La Nacion, the French midfielder is also in Costa Rica to have knee surgery. The former Turinese would have gone this weekend to a very famous clinic in the Escazu district. The nature of the operation as well as the duration of the convalescence remain unknown for the moment but Paul Pogba could already have left Costa Rica.
