FC Barcelona, formerly the undisputed leader of La Liga, is going through a dark period. Under the orders of Hansi Flick, the Blaugrana have only collected 5 points out of the last 21 possible. A worrying dynamic which relegated them to third place in the championship, behind the two Madrid clubs.
An unexpected collapse
On the evening of the 12th day, Barça had a 10-point lead over Real Madrid, thanks in particular to brilliant performances, such as the 4-0 victory at the Bernabéu. Since then, the Catalan club has suffered five defeats in 19 matches. A ratio of 26.3%, worse than that of Flick’s predecessors, Xavi (15%) and Koeman (21%).
The prolonged absence of Lamine Yamal, injured in the ankle, has exacerbated the offensive difficulties, while executives like Lewandowski struggle to regain their brilliance. Even the temporary Montjuïc stadium, where Barça lost three times in a row, symbolizes this negative spiral.
Flick’s challenges
Despite a promising start, Hansi Flick is today criticized for his inability to stop this fall. With only 38 points at mid-season, Barça is doing worse than its total from last year (41 points under Xavi). “I am proud of my players, but disappointed with the results. This November was a real nightmare”recognized the German technician.
