Since its takeover by the Arnault family and Red Bull, Paris FC (PFC) has displayed unprecedented ambitions which have sparked mixed reactions at PSG. Officially enthusiastic, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi hides, in private, a certain concern.
An ambitious project for Paris FC
With a management model reinforced by Arnault’s investments and the strategic participation of Red Bull (15% of shares), the PFC aims for a sustainable rise in Ligue 1 and a regular place in European competitions. Antoine Arnault underlined the objective of establishing the club in the elite without seeking, for the moment, to dethrone PSG: “Our objective is first of all to have a good season in Ligue 2 and to move up to Ligue 1.” However, the shadow of a growing rivalry between the two Parisian clubs looms large.
Al-Khelaïfi disturbed by this new rival
Despite a positive public reaction, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi would, according to L’Équipe, be upset by the arrival of this powerful competitor. A close friend of the Qatari leaders explains: “The PFC will end up overshadowing PSG. » The combination of Arnault’s financial resources and Red Bull’s influence could, in the long term, shake up Parisian hegemony. The PFC logo, which takes up the Eiffel Tower, and the gradual rise in power of the club amplify concerns.
Paris FC, although far from the standards of PSG currently, seems ready to redefine the balance of Parisian football in the long term.
