As Paris Saint-Germain prepares for the last two decisive matches in the group stage of the Champions League, a former French international has delivered a striking observation. Between lack of individual progression and formidable opponents, he believes that PSG does not yet have the weapons to shine on the European scene.
PSG still does not convince
Jean-Michel Larqué, former glory of AS Saint-Étienne and essential voice on RMC Sport, gave a clear opinion on the chances of PSG in Rothen bursts into flames. For him, the probability calculations do not work in favor of the Parisians:
“At one point or another, City will get their injured back and won’t lose again. If Paris only obtains a draw, it will be necessary to play the qualification away. Even against Stuttgart, it remains a complicated challenge.”
According to Larqué, this situation is largely the result of a lack of progression under Luis Enrique. He particularly criticizes players like Donnarumma, Barcola or Dembélé, whom he considers far from their best level.
PSG still in danger in C1
These criticisms will not fail to provoke a reaction from Parisian supporters, already divided over the management of Luis Enrique. While some might welcome Larqué’s outspokenness, others might see it as excessive pessimism. However, the former French international insists: without a solid collective and top individuals, PSG’s European ambitions will remain illusions.
A European challenge from the start of 2025
With two crucial matches coming up in C1, PSG will have to prove that they can finally overcome the doubts surrounding them. As Larqué points out, shining on the European scene requires more than flattering statistics in Ligue 1. “This is a semester where the main professor could write: satisfactory, but could do better.”
While Parisian supporters are still waiting for a Champions League, Larqué’s words resonate like a warning. Qualification is within reach, but without visible progress, elimination remains a very real possibility.
