This weekend, the English championship was again on the other side of the Channel. A few days before the start of the traditional Boxing Day, four matches took place at 3 p.m. in the Premier League this Sunday. Traveling to a shaky Everton, Chelsea had the opportunity to consolidate their second place by getting ever closer to Liverpool at the top of the standings. Hyper dominant against a very compact Liverpool block, the Blues failed in their mission by conceding a goalless and frustrating draw. Having 75% of the possession, Nicolas Jackson’s teammates could not find the fault against a grouped defense. Despite the attacks of the Senegalese striker (26th, 31st), the nets did not shake and Chelsea had to be content with a sharing of points which did not suit them.
The real sensation of the afternoon took place on the pitch at Old Trafford. Opposed to Manchester United, the Bournemouth Cherries made short work of the Red Devils. After a solid first period, the latter took the lead thanks to Dean Huijsen on a set piece (29th). And while Justin Kluivert gave Bournemouth the lead from the penalty spot on the hour mark (2-0, 60th), Antoine Semenyo added to the score a few minutes later (3-0, 63rd). With this crushing defeat at home, Manchester United sinks to 13th place while Bournemouth climbs to 5th place. In the other matches of the afternoon, Wolverhampton regained color on the Leicester pitch and did well in the race to maintain (0-3). Fulham and Southampton parted in a sterile draw (0-0).
