The opening match of the 16th day of Ligue 1, between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain (2-4) on Wednesday, was marked by a controversy surrounding refereeing. Gianluigi Donnarumma, victim of a violent collision with Monaco striker Wilfried Singo, had to leave the field due to injury. The Italian goalkeeper received an involuntary sole to the face, but no card was sent to Singo.

This decision by François Letexier, the referee blowing the whistle for the match, caused incomprehension among many observers, notably that of Bixente Lizarazu. The former left back of the France team compared this incident to Amine Harit’s high foot on Marquinhos’ sternum during the PSG-OM Classic on October 27. This uncontrolled gesture earned the Marseille attacking midfielder a red card.

“Mr. Letexier made a mistake”

“Donnarumma’s injury is really impressive. And that reflects a lack of consistency on the part of the refereeing, especially when we remember the Classic between PSG and OM with this red card for Amine Harit, who had injured Marquinhos with a mark on the chest. That’s what the referee was referring to. And there, it’s more than a mark for Donnarumma, it’s a scar with 17 stitches…”underlined the 1998 world champion for Téléfoot.

“So it’s true that it’s inconsistent. To err is human: Mr. Letexier made a mistake, but it is very surprising to have such different refereeing in these two situations, especially since Donnarumma was seriously injured during the action.added the consultant.
