Since joining Real Madrid last July, a lot has been said about Kylian Mbappé. Disturbed by various extra-sporting problems, the French international has nevertheless regularly found the net with his new club. So much so that mid-season, he found himself in the passing times of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, with thirteen goals on the clock.
Pawns accumulated in twenty-three matches, all competitions combined, by the Bondynois. This is exactly the same total as what “CR7” achieved during its very first season in Madrid, in 2009-2010. Kylian Mbappé will also have the opportunity to do better than the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, since he faces Sevilla FC this Sunday with the Merengue (4:15 p.m., 18th day of La Liga).
Ronaldo, crazy stats
Fifteen years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo ended his season with thirty-three goals scored in the space of thirty-five games. A mind-blowing total, yet far from what the Portuguese would achieve next. In 2010-2011, he scored forty-six goals in as many matches. Even better the following season with fifty-six goals in forty-eight matches. and so on until his departure in July 2018.
For the moment, Kylian Mbappé is therefore within the reference times of his illustrious predecessor and he presents himself as a threat to the Portuguese’s statistics in this first season. But the comparison stops there while we wait to see what happens next. One thing, however, seems to be confirmed: the former PSG player has seemed to be getting his football back for a few weeks. A good omen for Real Madrid. And for himself.
