Griezmann, it’s worse than expected

It would be a grand finale for Antoine Griezmann. At 34 (he will be on March 21), before leaving European football to live his American dream, the 2018 world champion intends to lead Atlético de Madrid to the title. “Grizi” has never been Spanish champion, having spent his entire career in La Liga. He arrived after the Colchoneros’ title in 2014 and left for two years at Barça, where he did not win the championship with Lionel Messi, and at the same time missed the coronation of Diego Simeone’s team in 2021!

Griezmann challenges the Catalan team this Saturday evening (9 p.m.), in a huge shock in the title race. Atlético is in incredible form with eleven successes in a row in all competitions, thanks in particular to the genius of the native of Mâcon, author of 7 goals and an assist during this series. The “Cholo” team was 10 points behind Barça at the start of November, now they are tied with Hansi Flick’s Blaugranas before the meeting in Montjuic and with one game less on the clock!

Griezmann against Barça: zero

The problem is that Griezmann has a cataclysmic record on the road at FCB. He has never won in Catalonia, in five matches with Real Sociedad then in eight matches in all competitions with Atlético, for two draws and 13 defeats. Number of goals scored by Griezmann: zero!

Griezmann is not only returning to a club where he was a resounding flop (recruited for 120 million euros in 2019, he never found his place in the locker room). Above all, he must find a way to make the difference alongside Julian Alvarez, also in great form, against a Barcelona team that has been faltering recently. Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, accompanied by Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde on the sides, protect an unconvincing Inaki Pena in goal in the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
