Medhi Benatia, future sporting director of OM, promises great players to strengthen the team. Between the Paul Pogba track and winter adjustments, Marseille’s ambition is going up a notch.

Olympique de Marseille is already working behind the scenes to strengthen its squad. Medhi Benatia, the club’s sports advisor (soon to be sports director), assured that OM is now attracting great players thanks to its ambitious project. After a summer transfer window marked by the arrivals of Adrien Rabiot, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Mason Greenwood, Marseille supporters can hope for other major recruits.

Guest on RMC, Medhi Benatia revealed that OM enjoys a growing reputation on the European scene. “I’m connected with quite a few great active players. Believe me, they are interested in our project. I have spoken with great coaches and they recognize the progress of this team.» The recruitment of Adrien Rabiot last September, despite strong competition, is proof of this new attractiveness.

Pogba and other prospects for January

According to Benatia, this strategy is based on rigorous preparation and a clear vision carried by Pablo Longoria and Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian strategist who arrived on the Marseille bench last summer.

While OM monitors the case of Paul Pogba, suspended until March 2025, Benatia remains cautious: “Paul is an exceptional leader, but you have to analyze the real needs and the balance of the team before deciding.» Regarding the winter transfer window, he specifies that the club is planning targeted adjustments: “We conceded a few avoidable goals, and the coach wants to strengthen certain lines. But these will be intelligent operations, not a revolution.»
