During a press conference this Wednesday, the president of Olympique de Marseille, Pablo Longoria, expressed his exasperation with the refereeing in Ligue 1. Criticizing a “great confusion”, he called for better consistency in arbitral decisions.
“The refereeing changes from one match to another”
Pablo Longoria was particularly incisive, evoking glaring differences in refereeing in the league and the European Cup: “In Ligue 1, I don’t understand the trend. The refereeing is totally different from one match to another. What I condemn is the lack of equal decisions, especially in the use of VAR. »
With five red cards already received by its players since the start of the season, OM seem to be particularly targeted: “We are the only ones sanctioned. Our leaders, myself included, have been penalized while other clubs go further in their criticism without consequences. »
A persistent inconsistency according to Longoria
Pablo Longoria also spoke of a regression compared to the situation a year and a half ago: “There was a certain consistency at the time. Today, everything is confusing. » Despite his disappointment, the Marseille president insisted on the importance of respecting the profession of referee, while asking for efforts for more homogeneous refereeing.
