Arsenal: it turns into a nightmare for Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling has completely disappeared from the radar. Loaned this summer to Arsenal by London neighbor Chelsea, the English winger is struggling to establish himself with the Gunners and even seems to have fallen behind Ethan Nwaneri (17 years old) in Mikel Arteta’s mind. A fairly significant problem for the residents of the Emirates Stadium, especially since the former Citizen has one of the ten highest salaries in the Premier League. Under contract with Chelsea, Raheem Sterling currently receives a salary of around 20 million euros per year, of which Arsenal must pay half, according to the terms agreed at the time of the loan (i.e. around 10 million euros), except that in addition to his exorbitant salary, at the moment, the player’s performance is poor.

Starting only four times since his arrival in north London, the Anglo-Jamaican has only played six matches out of fourteen possible in the Premier League. He scored no goals and provided only one assist. In the Champions League, it’s not much better for the 30-year-old winger who only played 39 minutes in two matches out of six possible, for once again no goals and no assists. This negligible contribution makes Gunners supporters cringe, who expected a lot from the arrival of the player trained in Liverpool.

Sterling doesn’t want to give up

Once again left on the bench this weekend against Everton, Raheem Sterling has just completed his fourth meeting in a row without setting foot on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. However, according to The Standardthe Kingston native does not intend to give up any time soon and would like to turn things around in the second half of the season. Convinced that he can establish himself within the Gunners squad, the English winger should not shorten his loan with Arsenal and intends to be patient to get his chance.

An opportunity that could also be offered to him by Mikel Arteta who appreciates the player and the man. “He is very good in the locker room and absolutely wants to play”said the Spanish technician about him last week, before adding. “In the matches he didn’t start, 90% of the substitutions I made were related to minutes management, injuries or wanting to avoid injuries. These were not tactical choices.. Raheem Sterling could therefore get more minutes in the second half of the season, but still from the bench. Not sure he’s not satisfied with that…
