A year after a return from outside the penalty area made by the Brazilian Guilherme Madruga, in the Botafogo jersey, it was another acrobatic rebound which won the Puskas Prize. Alejandro Garnacho, the Argentine prodigy of Manchester United, obtains the award for the best goal of the year, as was revealed during the Fifa The Best Football Awards 2024 on Tuesday in Qatar.

Garnacho scored with a sensational bicycle kick, on a cross from Diogo Dalot, during a Premier League match against Everton, on November 26, 2023. He joins a high-profile list, which includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-Min or Olivier Giroud.

The Marta Prize in addition to the Puskas Prize

The Qatari Hassan Al-Haydos, the Australian Terry Antonis, the Algerian Yassine Benzia, the Argentinian Walter Bou, the Honduran Michaell Chirinos, the Italian Federico Dimarco, the Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus, the Ugandan Denis Omedi, the Nigerian Paul Onuachu and Englishman Jaden Philogene were also nominated by Fifa for this distinction, which was then determined by the vote Internet users.

The body chaired by Gianni Infantino launched this year the female equivalent of the Puskas Prize with the Marta Prize and it was precisely the Brazilian football legend who won for his strike into the top corner during a friendly match with the Seleçao against Jamaica. Achievements by French internationals Delphine Cascarino and Sakina Karchaoui were named.
