On Sunday, Manchester City experienced new disillusionment,
by losing (1-2) against Manchester United. This is the eighth defeat in the last eleven matches for Pep Guardiola’s team, plunged into an almost inexplicable crisis.
The Spanish technician is not trying to avoid his responsibilities. “I’m not good enough. I’m the boss, the manager, I have to find solutions and so far I haven’t done it. When you lose eight matches out of eleven, something is wrong. What can I say? The schedule is tough, the players injured? No. We want to play better, create chances, but at the moment that is not possible,” he admitted in a post-match press conference.
Manchester City, the fall in the rankings
Pep Guardiola still believes in a burst of pride. “We have to look in the mirror. You can’t say, ‘oh, that’s bad luck,’ no. These are the decisions you make. Today, at the end, we played like under-15s,” he lamented, knowing that the Citizens conceded two goals in the very last minutes.
Now, Manchester City is in fifth position in the league, three points off the podium made up of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. On Saturday, Erling Haaland and his teammates will take to the Aston Villa pitch to try to get their heads above water, on the occasion of the 17th day of the Premier League.
