Even if Kylian Mbappé appears on the podium in Antoine Griezmann’s vote for the best player of the year, the other two places are much more surprising.

At the end of each year, France Football awards its French player of the year trophy. For 2024, it is once again Kylian Mbappé who has won this individual award, and this, for the fourth time since the start of his career.

The Real Madrid striker is ahead
Arsenal central defender William Saliba. Only five points separate the two French internationals. AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan completes the podium.

Griezmann, the almost lunar vote

For this player of the year trophy, former winners are asked to vote, designating three footballers. The choices ofAntoine Griezmann can leave you perplexed. If the Atletico de Madrid striker placed Kylian Mbappé in second position, he also put Alexandre Lacazette on… the throne. As well as Romain Del Castillo, certainly author of a satisfactory season under the colors of Stade Brestois, on the third step of the podium.

27 people participated in this vote, only former winners of the trophy. Among them, 13 did not favor the former Paris Saint-Germain player, including Luis Fernández, Manu Amoros, Jean-Pierre Papin and Karim Benzema. During the 2023-2024 financial year, the native of Bondy still scored a whopping 52 goals, in all competitions.
