William Saliba defends French clubs in the Champions League. Despite criticism of Ligue 1 in England, he hopes to see PSG, Monaco, Lille and Brest qualify for the rest of the competition.

William Saliba, Arsenal central defender, praised the Ligue 1 clubs’ successful European campaign in the Champions League. Despite Monaco’s defeat against the Gunners (3-0), the former OM and Saint-Étienne player showed his support for the French teams, often underestimated in England.

“I’m happy for the French clubs”

After the victories of PSG (3-0 against Salzburg), Brest (1-0 against PSV Eindhoven) and Lille (3-2 against Sturm Graz), Saliba declared on Canal+: “It’s nice to see the French clubs win. Here in England, some people still talk about ‘Farmer’s League’. But French clubs show that they deserve respect. I hope they all qualify.”

A challenge for the French teams

The four French clubs still in the running can still dream of qualifying. However, they will have to face some Premier League heavyweights. PSG will host Manchester City, Monaco will play Aston Villa, while Lille will challenge Liverpool at Anfield.
